Jumbo launches a new app for home delivery in Chile and Argentina

BeOn Argentina 13 MAY 2019

Aware of the constant expansion that Concierges and Last Milers are having in the region, Cencosud developed and launched its own app for customers to purchase and receive their goods in less than 120 minutes. We explore it in detail in the following article.

Last Milers and Concierge, that is to say, the apps dedicated to home delivery of goods & services, are rapidly expanding across regions and categories. In all cases, their presence accelerates eCommerce growth since they are able to attack some key barriers for online sales growth such as delivery time, payment methods and overall shopping experience. At the same time, they help build profitability for Bricks&Clicks, optimizing logistic costs that are inherent of online operations.

The larger retailers in the region have made different alliances with Last Milers with the objective of increasing online CPG sales. There have also been important acquisitions such as Walmart taking over Cornershop or Grupo Pao de Acucar, part of Casino Group, buying James Delivery in Brazil. Cencosud Group, however, decided to develop their own application inhouse. This app, that was recently in test mode, is ready for expansion in Chile and for launch in Argentina.

This service allows Jumbo to offer 90-minute delivery to their customers. Behind this Project, Cencosud expects to triple their online sales levels. Their objective is to offer and deliver to their customers more than 20 thousand different products through an outstanding shopping experience, which is a key differentiating factor for Cencosud shoppers. All in an easier and more agile way.

Just like they decided to internally develop their own solution, Cencosud also resolved that the people in charge of making deliveries would be directly hired by the group, subject to having previously successfully passed a hiring and training process. According to Hans Hanckes, eCommerce and Digital Experience Manager, this will allow Jumbo to differentiate from their competition since the delivery fleet will also be directly connected with store managers. “Customers in our app are buying directly to Cencosud, they are not delegating their purchase to any third party. This means shoppers can be certain that whoever is choosing and picking their products have the knowledge and attitude to be a Jumbo Shopper. Our excellence centered culture forces us to provide a service above customer expectations” he declared recently.

The app will allow users to Access the same promotions that are available instore as well as some exclusive online discounts. They will also be able to use their Fidelity card.

The battle for digital consumers is turning more and more interesting every minute!
